Each summer, Camp Twin Lakes hosts a radiothon in order to raise money to keep camp free for our campers. This year, we set our goal at $200,000. Thanks to 790-the-Zone radio, the awesome volunteers, and all the amazing donors (including one totally out-of-this-world donation) we surpassed our goal and ended the day with OVER $300,000!!! *insane applause* Think about how many kids that amount will send to camp, free of charge to them! We're also looking for ways to improve the current camp grounds (either by expanding or giving much needed updates to current areas, like the pool). This was just such a WONDERFUL day filled with excitement and energy...the campers even got into it by the end of the day! Anyways, I just wanted to let y'all know about all the amazing stuff going on at CTL this summer! Hope your vacation's as exciting as mine!!!!! :)
The Best Summer of MY LIFE!!! :)
As the title suggests, I must admit that THIS summer has definately been one for the records. As some of you know, I spent 11 years as a camper at Sunshine. LAST year, since I graduated, I returned and volunteered as a L.I.T. for Sunshine's junior week. THIS year, however, I took a leap of faith and decided to give Camp Twin Lakes a shot. I applied and was interviewed back in February. The MINUTE I stepped onto the camp grounds, I got chills. I KNEW that this is what I wanted to do as my summer job.
Classes at Mercer ended at the start of May, and I had exactly a week and a half at home with my family before I moved up to Rutledge. The 4.5 hour drive seemed to take 45 hours, as i couldn't wait to get here. I was also a little scared of how it would feel to have all the OTHER summer camps here, not just Sunshine.
This turned out fine as I fell in love with each camp who's been here thus far. We're just about to start the second week of Sunshine's stay (junior week), so there have been about 5 camps here since orientation week. I miss all the campers of each one, and I miss the various songs and chants that made each unique (C-B-E, most of all).
Anyways, I'm OD ("on-duty") for the weekend, and the counselors are just starting to arrive. I should probably go be useful somewhere. I'll be sure to post at some other point though.
Forever let the sun shine on...
~Steph
